Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 2026

This privacy policy applies to the iOS app "Wo liegt was?" as well as to the related website at woliegtwas.myappz.mobi. In accordance with Articles 13 and 14 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), it informs you about the nature, scope and purpose of the processing of personal data.

2. Data processing on the website

2.1 Server logs and hosting

This website is operated by a hosting provider. When you visit the website, information transmitted by your browser is automatically stored in so-called server log files:

  • IP address of the requesting device
  • Date and time of the access
  • Name and URL of the file retrieved
  • Website from which the access originates (referrer URL)
  • Browser used and, where applicable, the operating system

Purpose: Ensuring trouble-free operation of the website and detecting attacks.
Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in providing the website securely and without errors).
Storage period: Generally 7 days, unless security-relevant events require longer storage.

2.2 Fonts (locally hosted)

This website uses the fonts Nunito, Roboto and Muli. The font files are stored entirely on our own web server and are loaded exclusively from there. No connection to external font services (e.g. Google Fonts) is established, and no data is transmitted to third parties in the process.

2.3 Cookies and tracking

This website does not use any tracking cookies of its own and does not employ any analytics or advertising services. Only technically necessary cookies set by the hosting provider, which are required for the operation of the website, are used.

3. Data processing in the iOS app

3.1 Local data storage (inventory)

All items you record – including photos, descriptions, tags, storage places, rooms and optional GPS coordinates – are stored locally on your device (SwiftData). Data is transmitted only if you yourself initiate a backup to your own iCloud (Section 3.4) or a file export (Section 3.5). As the provider, we never gain access to this data at any time.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of the app's function under the terms of use).

3.2 Camera and photo library

The app can access your camera and photo library in order to take photos of items or select images from your library. The captured images are processed and stored exclusively on your local device. They are not shared with third parties.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent through granting the iOS system permission).

3.3 Location data

The app can optionally access your device location in order to save a GPS tag when storing items. The location is requested only when location permission is enabled and exclusively upon your request. Location data is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to us or to third parties.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent through granting the iOS location permission).

3.4 Backup to your iCloud

The app can back up your inventory – including photos – to your own iCloud, either automatically once a day or manually at the tap of a button. This backup is stored exclusively in the private iCloud area of your Apple account; as the provider, we never gain access to it at any time. You can enable or disable the automatic backup at any time in the app settings.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of the app's function). Processing in iCloud is carried out by Apple in accordance with their privacy policy.

3.5 File export and import

The app lets you export all your inventory data as a file. The file is first created temporarily on your device. Using the iOS share dialog, you can pass the file on to a service of your choice (e.g. save it in the Files app, store it on a NAS or transfer it via AirDrop) and likewise import it again later. We do not gain any access to the exported data. The temporary file is deleted automatically after sharing.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of the app's function) and Art. 20 GDPR (right to data portability).

3.6 Apple App Store

The app is distributed via the Apple App Store. During installation, updates and purchases, Apple Inc. processes data in accordance with its own privacy policy. We have no influence over this data processing by Apple. Further information: Apple Privacy Policy.

4. Disclosure to third parties

Your personal data is not disclosed to third parties, with the exception of the processing carried out by Apple in connection with the App Store (Section 3.6) and the backup to your own iCloud that you initiate yourself (Section 3.4). Otherwise, all inventory data, photos and location information remain exclusively on your device. No data is shared for advertising purposes, and no data is sold.

5. Storage period

Inventory entries stored in the app remain on your device until you actively delete them or uninstall the app. Server logs of the website are deleted after 7 days at the latest.

6. Your rights as a data subject

Under the GDPR, you have the following rights vis-à-vis us as the controller:

  • Right of access (Art. 15 GDPR): You can request information about the personal data we process.
  • Right to rectification (Art. 16 GDPR): You can request the correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Right to erasure (Art. 17 GDPR): Under certain conditions you can request the deletion of your data. Since all inventory data is stored exclusively on your local device, you can delete it yourself at any time.
  • Right to restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR): You can request that the processing of your data be restricted.
  • Right to data portability (Art. 20 GDPR): You can request your data in a common, machine-readable format. The app lets you export all inventory data as a JSON file.
  • Right to object (Art. 21 GDPR): You can object at any time to the processing of your data based on legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
  • Right to withdraw consent (Art. 7(3) GDPR): You can withdraw consent you have given (e.g. for camera, photo library or location access) at any time in the iOS settings, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out up to the point of withdrawal.

To exercise your rights, please contact: hello@myappz.mobi. We process requests within one month (Art. 12(3) GDPR).

7. Right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority

Under Art. 77 GDPR, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority if you believe that the processing of your personal data infringes the GDPR. The competent supervisory authority is:

State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information of North Rhine-Westphalia (LDI NRW)
Kavalleriestraße 2–4
40213 Düsseldorf, Germany
Website: www.ldi.nrw.de

8. Changes to this privacy policy

We reserve the right to amend this privacy policy in the event of changes to the app or legal requirements. The current version is always available on this page. The date of the last update is shown above.
